NCA launch Arts Manifesto for next General Election

The National Campaign for the Arts (NCA) launched its Arts Manifesto on Monday,15 June 2009, as part of the conference ‘Future Britain: Arts leading the way’. The manifesto is intended to be a vital lobbying and advocacy tool for use in the run up to the next General Election and beyond. Last year (July 2008) BFBB, together with other arts organisations, had a substantial input into the Arts Manifesto content at its inception.

The manifesto is not meant to be a policy wish list; instead the NCA has sought to articulate a vision for the UK and the arts sector's place within it. It has outlined the challenges it believes the sector itself must address to achieve that vision whilst also challenging governments to address specific concerns that will help the arts sector succeed in its aims. It has taken care to articulate our concerns not in terms of what the sector wants or needs but in terms of why the arts and culture are important to our national life and worth supporting.
