Grassroots Grants
deadline: March 2011
So far, Grassroots Grants has funded thousands of projects, from sports
for the disabled to arts for older people, activities for young people,
counselling services, employment programmes, food parcel services, music
groups and village halls. It is these small, volunteer led groups that
make a real difference to the lives of local people, and often a small
amount of money can go a long way.
Applying for Grassroots Grants is quick, easy and help is available. You can apply for money until March 2011. If your group ticks all the boxes, then you could apply for a Grassroots Grant of £250 - £5000
- A not-for-profit voluntary or community group in England
- Led by volunteers
- Active in local community 12 months or more
- Average income (over three years) of less than £30,000 per year
- Works for the benefit of your local community

New Community Chest grants in Northumberland
area: Northumberland
deadline: November 2009
Grants of up to £5000 are available to any voluntary/community or not-for-profit organisation based in or predominantly serving Northumberland which is properly constituted with a bank account that has at least two signatories.

Community Voices
Community Voices aims to inspire, engage and support disadvantaged and
isolated communities across England to get their voices heard through
digital media.
Led by Media Trust, and running until March 2011, Community Voices will provide funding for 26 grassroots groups, alongside one major new initiative and a further 40 small grants for specific digital projects. Community Voices will also provide comprehensive tools and resources for communities and community organisations of all sizes to increase engagement through digital media.
Community Voices will be funding 26 grassroots projects: 10 x £1,500, 10 x £7,000, 6 x £14,000. Plus they have £61,000 to fund one major new initiative. They will also be establishing a fund to give 40 x £500 grants to individuals or communities attached to these 27 groups to develop a specific media project.

The Leonardo Programme
The Leonardo programme funds a variety of different projects and offers
a range of opportunities for all sizes and kinds of organisations in the
UK to get involved in European working. You can apply for grants to:
• help your trainees or staff gain vital skills and experience
by organising work placements in another European country;
• participate in a European partnership to share expertise and experiences;
• create new training materials to meet the needs of business;
• attend a special event to meet new European partners; or
• have a meeting with prospective partners to write your application
for funding.
Every UK organisation involved in delivering or designing training for work can participate in the programme. This includes organisations such as local authorities, colleges, schools, trade unions, chambers of commerce, and private training organisations to name a few.

Active Life Fund for Older People
area: Wolverhampton, West Midlands
Voluntary and community organisations or groups located in Wolverhampton, that provide facilities, activities or services for the over 50's and want to develop new services and activities or extend existing ones, are being invited to apply for a grant of up to £300. Grants can be used for:
• equipment
• the cost of establishing new groups
• speakers or tutors
• start up costs for luncheon clubs
• room hire
• cost of transport to and from activities/social groups.

Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation
The Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation awards grants to a variety of categories including education, youth, community, environment/conservation, health and welfare. Generally grants awarded will range from between £200 and £5,000. Grants will only be made to registered charities including schools in the UK.
There is no application form – all submissions should be made in

Screen-Skills: The BBC Blast and BAFTA TV Craft Bursary
deadline: 5pm on 30 September 2009
BBC Blast have partnered up with BAFTA to give you the opportunity to learn the skills needed to make TV happen. So if you want a chance to win £3000 to make a TV programme and have it shown on BBC2 and you’re aged 16-19 and have a passion for TV, this is your chance!
Submit your short programmes (less than five minutes in length) by 30th September 2009 focusing in particular on editing, scriptwriting, composing music, or DoP. Entries can be any genre, including Factual, Drama, Comedy and Entertainment.
The eight winners, two in each category, will secure a bursary of £3000 to work with industry BBC or external production company over a six month period to produce a new piece of work.
Four out of the eight finalists will be nominated for a Screen-Skills award and the winner will be announced at the TV Craft Awards in May 2010. In addition to the placements, nominees and winner will also receive inspirational meetings and ongoing mentoring respectively with BAFTA mentors.
The new films that the winners created during the scheme will be celebrated at a special event held at BAFTA in November 2010 for filmmakers and industry and opinion formers.
