Is
now a registered body with the criminal Records Bureau
Implementing basic child protection and safeguarding
procedures is relatively straightforward for brass bands now that
BFBB has become a Registered Body with the Criminal Records Bureau
(CRB). Last year saw a massive cull of bodies that were previously
registered to process the CRB forms. Those not meeting a disclosure
threshold were deregistered leaving some bands with difficult and
restricted access to the CRB. As a registered umbrella body, BFBB
will endeavour to process applications quickly and without any fuss
for bands.
The BFBB is pleased to announce that this new service is free to
member bands. A small administration charge will be made for applications
received from non-member bands and other organisations.
It is very important that all bands use the CRB facility. We know
that many of you have not registered your members to-date so we
advise you to take a look at the procedures you have in place to
see if they are up to date. We advise that any senior members who
work with young people agree to a CRB check. If you apply for some
grants or apply for charitable status you will need to have your
CRB checks in place.
If you would like more information or assistance concerning your
CRB applications contact

Two useful information packs; the BFBB Child Protection Policy
and the Code of Conduct, compliment the BFBB Registered Body status
and are available for all bands to download from the child protection
section of the information pages.
